Freelance food writing

I did some freelance food writing work recently and contributed to “In Good Taste” magazine for Spring. Check out page 9 for the article: “How to Make Your Life More Fruitful”. It was a fun experience and I hope to do more writing for this local publishing agency that focuses on custom food marketing for many high-end grocery stores and markets.

Are you looking for a food writer? I have quite a few articles that have been published online. I would love to write for you. Ping me! I’ll send you links to the work I have done.

Henry cooks Dinner

Henry Lau is one of my dearest friends. Henry decided, most generously, to come to our kitchen last Sunday and prepare dinner for Yianni and I. His delicious meal was Chicken Ballottine with preserved lemon and harissa couscous stuffing, based on the virtual guidance of  his mentor Chef, Jacques Pépin.

Here we are at my birthday celebration in October.

A ballottine is a whole chicken that has been boned and stuffed. It’s rolled up and tied with kitchen string. Harissa is a North African, hot chili sauce, or spread, made from sun-dried ground peppers, garlic, cardamon, salt, coriander, and extra virgin olive oil. Couscous is a traditional North African/Berber dish of semolina (granules of durum wheat) which is cooked by steaming.

Thank you Henry!!! Like the song says,
“Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me [and Yianni], for sure
That’s what friends are for…”

KouZína | Greek Street Food’s 1st Anniversary Party

One year ago, Bobby Laskaris opened KouZina, Greek Street Food, in Royal Oak. Ever since, crowds of people have flocked to see just what Greek street food was and a trend began. This is the real deal.

KouZina | Greek Street Food on Main Street in Royal Oak threw an anniversary party honoring their first year in business. The party was attended by many local Greek food lovers, including the Original Olga (Loizon). Of course, owner Bobby Laskaris and his staff served delicious Greek food and pastries.

Featured artist “Slaw” showed his paintings at the event and the restaurant became an art gallery. You’ll see in the video that one very special painting was created just for Bobby. Slaw described his artistic style as a cross between Hanna-Barbera cartoons and the modern look of the 1950s and ’60s.

I blogged about KouZina in January if you’d like to read my review and recommendation of one of my favorite Greek eateries. Bravo Bobby!
